Was originally developed to improve strength and balance of dancers.
It has evolved into a system of exercises which helps strengthen the
trunk muscles and hence can be used in the treatment of back pain.

Pilates (along with Swiss ball and other exercises) is used in my remedial
exercise classes. These classes are aimed at recruiting tummy/back
muscles and from there strengthening leg and arm muscles.

These classes are suitable for people with back pain, or who want
to make a start towards fitness.
